“Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:20-21
Wow! The God of the universe, the God that breathed the earth, stars, galaxies, and the entire universe into existence, humbled himself and took the form of a little baby, to ultimately save us from our sins. Salavation came down from heaven on Christmas day! That is why we celebrate.
Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Phillipians 2:5-11
This is the Christmas story. What is so awesome to us as prospective adoptive parents, is that it is also a beautiful picture of adoption. That same creator, and God of the universe, the one who took the form of an infant in a lowly manger, also predestined us to be adopted as His sons! He became the sacrifice for our sins, welcoming us into his family as heirs! Us, though we were born into a life of sin, a life where ultimately death would overtake us, he died to save us from death.
"In love he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Christ Jesus, in accordance with his pleasure and will, to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has given us freely in the one he loves." Ephesians 1:5-6
He freely gave us Christ on Christmas. The best gift we can ever receive. Let Christ adopt you into his family this Chrismas and allow him to cleanse from the sin that separates us from God. Trust only in Jesus for salvation from death.
God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. 2 Corinthians 5:21
Heavenly Father, we humble ourselves before you this Christmas, because our hearts are overwhelmed and overjoyed at the fact that you, the creator of everything, loved us enough to make a way for us to be in your prescence eternally. A perfect God, one we can't even fathom, provided us, sinful and rebelious, with a cleansing from our imperfection so that we can overcome death. God I pray this Christmas that the world would except your Son, Jesus, as exactly what he is, the gift of eternal life. I pray that this blind and lost world would see the light. Lord, continue to guide Betsy and I, through your Holy Spirit, to live lives pleasing to you, and in accordance with your will. God lead us to live lives that act on our faith. Help us to be the hands and feet of Jesus that point others to truth, that point others to you. Lord forgive us when we fall. We depend on you as our strength. Thank you Jesus for Christmas!
